The History of Student Conference

This year’s trip to the International Conference in Soweto will mark the 5th time that UYEP and its partners have sponsored a trip to Africa. Over the years we’ve held meetings and educational tours in South Africa, Senegal, and Mozambique. The highlights include a trip to the “Door of No Return” and Goree Island in Dakar, Senegal; a visit to Robben Island where Nelson Mandela was held prisoner, a historic township of Soweto as well as townships near Cape Town, a Youth Entrepreneur Summit in Maputo, Mozambique.

Solar energy and entrepreneurship can transform a community. One solar panel can change a dark hut into a home without electricity that will allow children to read and study at night. It can also provide energy for refigeration to store food and medicine.
