2010 Itinerary

The student trip itinerary and curriculum is as follows:

Students from Detroit will fly from Detroit to Washington DC to board their international flight to Johannesburg, South Africa.

After arriving in Johannesburg, the students will be picked up at the airport and taken to the township of Soweto where they will be staying in several guest houses.

The Detroit students will attend Student Leadership Conference with the Teboho Trust Organization

Monday – Saturday students will participate by teaching their content area to other students & learning other content area from the other student’s instruction.

(Content areas include: Solar design and assembly/Agricultural development & greenhouse construction/ small business development & entrepreneurship)

Ryan Mack of Optimum Capital Management and with Eric Hamilton, Yahoo: will be presenting and working with the students throughout the conference providing expertise in Financial Literacy & International Web Design Information.

In the Johannesburg/Soweto area, students will visit:

Apartheid Museum

Hector Peiterson Museum

Nelson Mandela’s Soweto Home

Bishop Desmond Tutu’s Soweto Home

Johannesburg Business District

Vilakazi Street

Gold Reef City

Monday-Wednesday of the following week all student will participate in 3 day community service project in Soweto that will focus on implementing solar projects & urban gardening techniques.

Students will complete their trip to South Africa by traveling to Cape Town (Thursday-Sunday)
